Nana [ナナ]

Nana has been adapted into an anime series, directed by Morio Asaka and animated by the studio Madhouse. The first and third openings and third ending songs are sung by Anna Tsuchiya for the band Black Stones, and Olivia sings the second opening and first and second endings for the band Trapnest as Reira Serizawa. The first DVD release was on July 7, 2006. The anime series was intended to be equal to the manga and it was adapted until the 12th tankoubon to avoid filler. According to Junko Koseki (editor of Nana in Shueisha) and Masao Maruyama (president of Madhouse) a second season is probably going to be aired once the manga series is finished.[10] Two girls, both named Nana and of the same age, coincidentally meet on a train trip to Tokyo. They soon find theirselves living with each other under the same roof because of an even bigger coincidence. Even though they share the same name and age, they differ in just about everything else. Even so, through hard experiences in love and life, a strong friendship is born between them, as both Nanas grow through their hardships and struggle to win the odds. Main Characters

Nana Osaki (大崎ナナ, Ōsaki Nana?) a.k.a Nana (ナナ?) or "Nana O."

One of the titular characters of the series, Nana Osaki may look like a tough punk rocker, but she has a kind heart and is a devoted friend, though she can be possessive and dark as shown when she tells Nobu her reason for hooking him up with Nana Komatsu is to keep Nana with her. Nana usually displays a tough exterior, but can become very emotional, to the point in which she has trouble breathing. Nana is the vocalist of the band Black Stones, also known as Blast. She considers the band Trapnest as her rival, most likely due to the fact that Ren decides to leave Blast for Trapnest. Abandoned by her parents and raised by her grandmother, Nana was expelled from high school after she was falsely accused of prostitution. Despite these hardships, Nana "polishes the shards of her dreams" and is determined to be successful as the lead vocalist of Blast. She gets engaged to her first love, Ren, although she also has lingering, ambiguous feelings for Yasu. In the future scenes it can be interpreted that Nana ran away from Japan and cut all ties with her friends. This may be triggered by the death of Ren, her fiance, and the events that followed. Her favorite designer is Vivienne Westwood, and her favorite band is the Sex Pistols.


Nana Komatsu (小松奈々, Komatsu Nana?) a.k.a Hachi (ハチ?) or "Nana K."
Voiced by: Kaori (Japanese), Kelly Sheridan (English)
The other "Nana" of the series, alongside Nana Osaki, Komatsu Nana comes to Tokyo looking to find her dream. She initially comes to Tokyo in order to stay in a relationship with her boyfriend, Shoji Endo. Unlike Osaki, however, she comes from a large and happy household, though her childish outlook prevents her from living on her own initially. She always falls in love at first sight. Due to her kindness and faithfulness, Nana Osaki nicknames her "Hachi", after the dog Hachikō (ハチ公, Hachikō?). Additionally, "hachi" means the number "eight" in Japanese, while "nana" is one reading for "seven". Later she becomes pregnant in between dating Takumi and Nobu. Although she was in love with Nobu, she chooses to stay with Takumi since he could readily provide for the child's upbringing. Later in the series, Hachi has a daughter named Satsuki that resembles Takumi in eye and hair color. Early in the series Nana seems mentally immature, but later develops a mature sense of understanding for others. In the future scenes of the series, Nana is presumably still married to Takumi, although she remains unhappy with their marriage. Junko Saotome, Hachi's best friend, tries to persuade her into getting a divorce with Takumi. Hachi is still contemplating this decision, but for the meantime decides to prolong the divorce for the sake of Satsuki. Hachi seems to rely heavily on Takumi for financial support, which may be one of the reasons for prolonging a divorce. After Nana Osaki's disappearance, Hachi seems intent on finding Nana.


Black Stones

Black Stones—normally shortened to Blast (ブラスト, Burasuto?)—is a popular punk band within the series. Ren was once a member of the group, but, after his departure to join Trapnest, they recruit a new member, Shin. They attract a large following, and ultimately sign a deal with Gaia Records. Nana Osaki is their main vocalist.


Nobuo Terashima (寺島伸夫, Terashima Nobuo?) a.k.a. Nobu (ノブ?)
Voiced by: Tomokazu Seki (Japanese), Matthew Erickson (English)
He is the guitarist of Blast and was the only person able to befriend Nana Osaki during high school—which coincidentally began their shared love for punk music. He is friendly and optimistic, but at times, he tends to miss the focus of conversations around him. Before Nana's "smoking ban", he is the only non-smoking member of Blast. However, his threshold for alcohol is poor and he accidentally leaks many secrets while he is drunk (most notably, about Nana and Ren's relationship to Shin). Like Yasu, Nobu comes from a rich family (his parents own an inn). Despite this, he is still very passionate about music, even sharing Osaki's dream of making it big with a band one day. He falls in love with Hachi and they start a short but happy relationship. When Takumi tells Nobu about her pregnancy, Hachi painfully leaves him for Takumi. While he eventually accepts the reasons why she left him, he still fears the possibility of the child being his. He still has feelings for Hachi but decides to get in a relationship with Yuri.


Shinichi Okazaki (岡崎真一, Okazaki Shin'ichi?) a.k.a. Shin (シン、シンちゃん?)
Voiced by: Akira Ishida (Japanese), David Kaye (English)
He is the bass player of Blast. Though mature and tall for his age, he is 15 years old and is the youngest member of the band. Because of his dysfunctional family, Shin left his home and abandoned his original family name. He moonlights as a male prostitute with Reira being one of his "clients". Among other things, he is an expert mahjong player and a confidant and early roommate to Nobu. He stops seeing Reira to protect her status and his own feelings—also possibly sparked from fear by Takumi's warning. Ryōko Kawashigi, one of his older clients, bears a striking resemblance to Reira and he sees her again after the two musicians ended their relationship. She lives near his parents' apartment, works as a stewardess, and is the one that taught Shin "bad things". He and Ryouko were put under arrest for possession of marijuana which caused BLAST to withdraw from their tour. In the future it is shown he has become an actor.


Yasushi Takagi (高木泰士, Takagi Yasushi?) a.k.a. Yasu (ヤス,ヤッさん、ハゲ?)
Voiced by: Yoshihisa Kawahara (Japanese), Brian Drummond (English)
He plays percussion and is the leader of Blast, usually handling the business partnerships and financial decisions needed for the band's success. His favorite cigarette brand is "Black Stones", from which the band got their name. He is also a lawyer in training, despite his "scary" appearance (clean shaven head, many earrings and dark glasses). He is the big brother figure for Nana O—and sometimes Nobu—and acted as Nana's "guardian" when she arrived in Tokyo. While he admits to being in love with her, he baits Ren to rekindle their love for each other. Ren says that Yasu "always stood back and let [Ren] have what ever he wanted" to Reira in chapter 53. Nana realizes that Yasu will always consider Ren's feelings first, and the reason Yasu will never pursue his feelings for Nana is not that he is "a prude" or loves her like a sister but because she is Ren's girlfriend. He looks after her in place of Ren, who can not. In the past, he shared several ties with Trapnest's members. Yasu and Ren grew up in the same orphanage and remained close friends when Yasu was adopted. He dated Reira while in high school and was jealous of Takumi's success and influence on her, which he later relates as the reasons for their break up. Also, he is the oldest member of Blast, which Nobu sometimes teases him about (by calling him "old man"). He is in a budding romance with Miu to the surprise of Ren and others—who were sure he would date Reira again. When Nana sees him with Miu having breakfast she immediately assumes they had sex and is obviously hurt by this thought, avoiding Yasu and even comically screaming that she does not care who he sleeps with after he asks her if she is alright (he was referring to the hangover she was complaining of when she entered his room.)


Trapnest
Trapnest or Tranes (トラネス, Toranesu?) for short, is a popular band in the manga. Nana wants her own band to overtake Trapnest as the leading one in Japan.


Ren Honjo (本城蓮, Honjō Ren?) a.k.a Ren (レン?)
Voiced by: Hidenobu Kiuchi (Japanese), Samuel Vincent (English)
Blast's former bassist, Ren is actually Trapnest's guitarist. He is very popular and his music is well-received by fans. He and Nana Osaki were once in a relationship when he was still with Blast. Even after two years apart he was still deeply in love with Nana. something that Nobuo acknowledges as very rare. He asks Nana to marry him in chapter 39, but he later admits to Reira that he only asked her "to drive Yasu out of Nana's heart." He says that he is sick, because he loves Nana so much that he wants her to give up everything and always be by his side, never thinking of anyone but him. He admits that he sometimes wants to kill her so that she'll never be his and only his forever. Ren is a big fan of the Sex Pistols; he participated in a tribute album to them, and wears a "Sid Vicious" padlock around his neck that he received from Nana. Nana had an image of a lotus tattooed on her upper arm in honor of him ("Ren" is a Japanese name for lotus). Ren grew up in an orphanage and learned to take care of himself by the age of 12. He finds school boring and only likes to play guitar, which he practiced alone to the point of perfection. The brand of the cigarettes he originally smoked was the "Seven Stars". In chapter 77, he dies in a car accident on the night before Nana's 21st birthday.


Layla Serizawa (芹澤レイラ, Serizawa Reira?) a.k.a Reira (レイラ?)
Voiced by: Aya Hirano (Japanese), Ashleigh Ball (English)
She is the half-American, half-Japanese lead singer of Trapnest who writes the lyrics for Trapnest's songs. Though her name is often romanized as "Reira," she is actually named "Layla" after the hit song by Eric Clapton. She secretly had trysts with Shin. Though in love with him, she eventually broke up with him to protect Trapnest from further scandal. She asked if they could still contact each other but Shin is reticent and urges her to break off entirely. It is unknown if they will reconcile though it is clear that they still love each other. Layla grew up with Takumi and she is in love with him. Takumi, however, continues to treasure her as a sister and not a lover. Layla has admitted that she is in love with Shin as well.


Takumi Ichinose (一ノ瀬巧, Ichinose Takumi?) a.k.a Takumi (タクミ?)
Voiced by: Toshiyuki Morikawa (Japanese), Andrew Francis (English)
The leader and bassist of Trapnest. He is quite handsome and has a reputation of being a playboy. Despite his raw sexual charisma, Takumi can also be a cold and controlling workaholic. His favorite brand of cigarettes is Gitanes. Coming from a family with an alcoholic and bitter father, he and his older sister learned to be independent at a young age due to their mother being bed-ridden with illness in the hospital. He looked after Layla since they were children and always harbored a brother-like care for her. He ends up dating and sleeping with Hachi, which dubiously resulted in Hachi's pregnancy. For some reason, perhaps because of his family background or because he is starting to become possessive, he refuses to leave Hachi and the unborn child despite Hachi's uncertainty whether it is his or Nobu's. In a previous chapter, Naoki said something to Yasu about Takumi not letting the woman he is infatuated with run away that easily; and Ren saying that Takumi hates getting into such mess, which hints that Takumi took responsibility not just only because of sheer sense of responsibility but he is starting to care for her. But although he loves Hachi and is "infatuated" with her, Takumi still keeps his playboy habits, cheating on her first with a soap-opera actress and later on with Layla, who has openly declared her desire to become one of his lovers. Takumi has said more than once that he only loves Layla as a sister, and so far appears to be telling the truth.Although he does not show any feelings towards Hachi and Satsuki during the pregnancy, He does admit to Ren when Ren tells him he is going to hell for sleeping with Layla that he would do anything to make sure Hachi and Satsuki are not dragged with him. During one of the views from the present, we witness Takumi in London with a fair haired young boy by the name of Ren. Ren refers to Takumi as Father and says he does not want to go back to Japan to be with his mother. However, it is not revealed who she is. As well as Takumi visiting Hachi and Satsuki in Japan with no sign nor mention of young Ren.
In the end, Takumi is one of the most confusing characters in this manga. Like what Hachiko once said, with Takumi, it is hard to tell whether it is love or business.


Naoki Fujieda (藤枝直樹, Fujieda Naoki?)
Voiced by: Anri Katsu (Japanese), Adrian Petriw (English)
He is the drummer of Trapnest. Like Nobu in Black Stones, he is the "clueless", loud-mouthed member of his band. As with the rest of his bandmates, he is a friend of Yasu. His musical interest was awakened by Takumi during middle school. He hoped to achieve lots of attention from girls by playing in the band. He used to be the playboy of the band, tricking groupies to fund their cause, to which end is not explained. It is shown that in the future he has a daughter named Momo as he refers to her in conversation with Takumi. It is unknown who the mother or how old she is.



Nana Episodes

01 "Prologue: Nana and NANA" - "Joshō. Nana to NANA" (序章. 奈々とナナ)
The anime starts out with Komatsu Nana's thoughts, "Hey, Nana. Do you remember the day we met?" Both Nana's meet up on a train ride to Tokyo and both see they have more in common than meets the eye.

02 "Love? Friendship? Nana and Shōji" - "Koi? Yūjō? Nana to Shōji" (恋?友情?奈々と章司)
Komatsu Nana's background is revealed and her first meeting with Shoji is shown. Komatsu Nana reveals her troubled past concerning romance and begins her new goal of finding love.

03 "Nana and Shoji, Love's Whereabouts" - "Nana to Shōji, koi no yukue" (奈々と章司、恋の行方)
Nana Komatsu learns that Jun-chan and Kyousuke are planning to live in Tokyo. Shoji becomes upset with Nana, and later, discovers from Kyousuke, that she did not want to toy with his feelings, but instead loves him. Nana sees her estranged past lover Asano on the streets of Tokyo and realizes that her love for him is in the past. After learning that Shoji is searching for her, Nana looks for him.

04 ."Nana's Love, NANA's Dream" - "Nana no koi, NANA no yume" (奈々の恋、ナナの夢)
Shōji and Komatsu Nana fall in love. The BlackStones are introduced. Oosaki Nana's past is shown and she is shocked as Ren tells her he is leaving for Tokyo.

05 "Ren's Dream, NANA's Thoughts" - "Ren no yume, NANA no omoi" (レンの夢、ナナの思い)
While Ren makes the band Trapnest his highest priority, Nana decides what her fate shall be.

06 "Snowing in Tokyo! Nana and NANA" - "Yuki no jōkyō! Nana to NANA" (雪の上京!奈々とナナ)
Nana Komatsu is heading to Tokyo to meet up with her boyfriend Shoji Endo and her two friends Junko Saotome and Kyosuke Takakura. On the train, she meets Nana Osaki, and the two soon form a bond. (This episode is just like the first, only more detailed.)

07 "Yasu Appears! Room No. 707" - "Yasu toujō! 707 gō shitsu" (ヤス登場!707号室)
Nana Komatsu and NANA Osaki meet once again. The two decide to share an apartment, number 707. Will Shouji and the others approve of Nana living with a total stranger?

08 "Strawberry Glass and Ren-Lotus Flower" - "Ichigo GURASU to Ren no hana" (いちごグラスと蓮の花)
Nana Komatsu and Nana Osaki move into their new apartment. They decide to go shopping for new things. While they do,Nana Osaki decides having the same name is too confusing, so she gives Nana Komatsu the nicknamed “Hachi”.

09 "Nobu Arrives in Tokyo! Nana's Song" - "Nobu jōkyō! NANA no uta" (ノブ上京!ナナの歌)
Nana and Hachi get settled into their new apartment. During the day, Hachi works at her new job. At night, the two get a visitor named Nobu, who used to play in Nana's band the "Black Stones".

10 "The Handsome Youth Shin Appears!" - "Bishōnen Shin tōjō!" (美少年シン登場!)
Nana and Nobu, along with Hachi, start their search for two more band members and they quickly find a new bass player. Meanwhile, Shouji is asked to train a young girl named Sachiko! Will this Sachiko be the Sachiko Hachi was afraid about?

11 "Sachiko, Is This on Purpose?" - "Sachiko, wazato da yo?" (幸子、わざとだよ?)
Hachi's boss, Mizukoshi, tells her that he's closing the shop! Now, without a job, Hachi must find a way to pay the rent and eat. However, she has other problems. Shouji is getting closer to Sachiko, and Hachi still doesn't know. Meanwhile, Yasu makes an important decision.

12 "Urgent Approach! Shōji and Sachiko" - "Kyū sekkin! Shōji to Sachiko" (急接近!章司と幸子)
Komatsu Nana attempts to get her life back on track, but Shoji is forced to work out his feelings for Sachiko and Nana.

13 "Sachiko's Tears, Shōji's Determination" - "Sachiko no namida, Shōji no kesshin" (幸子の涙、章司の決心)
Nana's new job is a bust, but while Osaki Nana gets an opening for her band, showing up at Shoji and Sachiko's work only brings trouble.

14 "Family Restaurant of Shambles" - "Shuraba no FAMIRESU" (修羅場のファミレス)
Komatsu Nana's heart is broken after she found out she was cheated on, but receives front row Trapnest Tickets as a "gift from the gods".

15 "Blast, First Live" - "BURASUTO, hatsu RAIBU" (ブラスト、初ライブ)
Blast prepares for its first ever live concert when they get Nanaand Hachi meet a strange girl connected with Nana's past

16 "Nana's Love Whereabouts" - "NANA no koi no yukue" (ナナの恋の行方)
After Hachi's breakup with Shoji hits her hard, she begins to wonder about Nana's love and asks Nobu

17 "Trapnest, Live" - "TORANESU, RAIBU" (トラネス、ライヴ)
Both Nanas go to Hachi's home town to see the Trapnest Trigger Tour. Hachi questions Nana about her relationship with
Ren and asks if she still loves him.

18 "Hachi's Prayer, Nana's Thoughts" - "Hachi no inori, NANA no omoi" (ハチの祈り、ナナの想い)
Ren noticed Nana at the concert but now he has a choice, does he try to get her back? and if he does decide to go for again he now has competition for her heart. Later on, Nana meets with Ren in his hotel room.

19 "Nana's Prize" - "NANA no gohōbi" (ナナのごほうび)
Nana and Ren talk about their future. Hachi visits Junko who quizzes her about the bands. Everyone gathers at the Nana's to play games, but Trapnest's Ren and Takumi also join.

20 "Sudden Development! Hachi's Fate" - "Kyū tenkai! Hachi no unmei" (急展開!ハチの運命)
Ren and Nana are now back together and Yasu reveals that he had a relationship (2 years) with Reira from Trapnest. Hachi gets to know Nobu better and sees similars qualities in him that she sees in herself.

21 "Dream of Suite Room" - "SUIITO RŪM no yume" (スイートルームの夢)
Hachi has dinner with Takumi and debates wheether she should spend the night with him, even though she knows about his reputation as a womanizer. Nana's band are excited to learn that Yasu has scheduled another concert.

22 "Wish of July 7th, Hachi's Love" - "Tanabata no negai, Hachi no koi" (七夕の願い、ハチの恋)
Blast celebrate 7th July and make decorations for the apartment. Hachi prepares a large meal for Trapnest the next night to celebrate the end of their tour, however Nana informs her that they won't be visiting as they're going out with friends (the boys from BLAST). Takumi visits Hachiko after having BLAST's boys throw drink over him for insulting her.

23 "I Do Not Want to Pass Over to Anybody" - "Dare ni mo watashitakunai" (誰にも渡したくない)
Nobu comes to terms with his feelings for Hachiko whilst Nana confides in Yasu that she will be by Hachi's side no matter what she decides - even though she disapproves of Takumi. Ren asks Nana to move in with him. Reira gives Shin money to spend the night with her.

24 "Hachi's Confused Heart" - "Midareru Hachi no kokoro" (乱れるハチの心)
BLAST are noticed by a record company thanks to Yasu. Nana tells Hachiko what Takumi said to Shin and Nobu but also tells her that Nobu is in love with her. Later that day, Nobu confesses his true feelings to Hachi. Shin leaves his lighter at Reira's and gets it back but spends no time with her much to Reira's chargrin. Hachi is torn between Takumi and Nobu.

25 "A Capricious and Selfish Man" - "Kimagure de katte na otoko" (気まぐれで勝手な男)
Nana goes to live with Ren for the two weeks that Trapnest have off. Reira and Takumi visit America and bump into each other there. Nobu walks Hachi home but Takumi turns up and walks her the rest of the way. Hachi avoids going to watch BLAST practice because she can't face Nobu and Misato comes to visit for summer vacation.

26 "The Passing Hachi and NANA" - "Surechigau Hachi to NANA" (すれちがうハチとナナ)
BLAST's first live is sold out. Hachiko feels lonely after Nana turns her down to celebrating at hers so she goes to see Takumi.

27 "Hachi's Desired Future" - "Hachi no hoshii mirai" (ハチの欲しい未来)
All of BLAST except Nana visit Hachiko and discuss the record contract. Nana comes by later in the evening but finds that Hachiko has gone with Nobu to buy wine. Hachi and Nobu kiss.

28 "Hachi and Nobu, Sudden Intimacy" - "Hachi to Nobu, Kyū Sekkin" (ハチとノブ、急接近)
Hachi says she will break up with Takumi to be with Nobu.

29 "The Problem of Expressing Love" - "Aijō hyōgen no mondai" (愛情表現の問題)
Hachiko admits to Nana that she loves Nobu after spending the night at his place. Junko, her boyfriend and Hachi's ex (Shoji) try to analyse why Hachi is with Nobu. Yasu and the record company manager meets with Shin's father to sign the contract. Takumi can't get through to Hachi and gets angry because of that. Ren is puzzled.

30 "Breakdown, NANA's Heart" - "Kekkai girigiri, NANA no kokoro" (決壊ギリギリ、ナナの心)
Hachi feels ill during work and her boss tells her to see a doctor. Nobu gets Nana a job at the moving company he part-time works for so she can make some money. Hachi discovers she is pregnant. Takumi tells Ren that he misses Hachi.

31 "Hachi's Child, Pregnancy" - "Hachiko, ninshin" (ハチ子、妊娠)
Hachi is having a baby but doesn't know if its Nobu's or Takumi's. Takumi phones Nobu using Hachi's phone and tells him that if she decides to keep the baby he will recognise it and raise it as his own.

32 "Don't Separate the Joined Hands" - "Tsunaida te o hanasanai de" (繋いだ手を離さないで)
Nana and Nobu argue over what to do about the baby and whether or not Nobu should become the baby's father. Nobu goes to see Hachi. Reira explains the 'red thread' belief to Shin.

33 "Hachi's Choice" - "Hachi no sentaku" (ハチの選択)
Hachi makes her final decision about her pregnancy. Takumi surprises her with his own.

34 "The Broken Strawberry Glass" - "Wareta ichigo no GURASU" (割れたいちごのグラス)
Takumi and Hachi tell their decision to marry. Nana is shocked, and a strawberry glass falls apart.

35 "Reira's Loneliness" - "Reira no kodoku" (レイラの孤独)
Reira is upset about Takumi and Hachi's engagement.

36 "Blast's New Song!!" ;- "BURASUTO shinkyoku!!" (ブラスト新曲!!)
The Black Stones perform their new song for their management. Later, Shin and Nana have a big argument. Nana heads home to apartment 707 for the first time in nine days only to find that Hachi has moved out.

37 "Hachi, High-Class Housewife" - "Hachi, shiroganeeze" (ハチ、シロガネーゼ)
Shouji, Junko and Kyosuke discuss the possibility that Hachi's fiance is Takumi from Trapnest. Meanwhile Hachi meets Naoki for the first time and shows off her new apartment to him and Takumi. Takumi tells Hachi that she doesn't have to keep their relationship a secret from their friends and family and expresses his desire to go and meet with Hachi's parents and sisters.

38 "The Trigger of Fate" - "Unmei no hikigane" (運命の引き金)
Ren encourages Nana to go and see Hachi, unfortunately Nana and Hachi just miss each other. Hachi meets with Shin and tells him about her pregnancy and decision to marry Takumi.

39 "Look, Hachiko" - "Hachiko, mitero yo" (ハチ公、見てろよ)
The lovelife of Ren and Nana has leaked to the press. Blast suspects Gaia to be involved. Nana faces the consequences, and leaves a message for Hachiko through a tv broadcast. Hachi on her side is having problems with Takumi and confesses to Junko and Kyosuke that she is in love with him, even though she wishes that she could love Nobu.

40 "Blast, Debut!" - "BURASUTO, DEBYŪ!" (ブラスト、デビュー!)
With Blast holed up in a secret hotel room, Misato has come to visit again while Yasu and Gaia finally make a decision about the debut. Nana tells Nobu that she has a plan to get Hachi back. Trapnest's members leave for London and Hachiko heads back to her hometown, while Reira discovers that Blast's debut single will be released on the same day as Trapnest's new single.

41 "Blast Lodging Together" - "BURASUTO gasshuku" (ブラスト合宿)
Hachi's sister Nao asks Hachi about Nana, later Takumi arrives home from London and gives Hachi her engagement ring. With the rest of Trapnest still in London, Ren and Reira begin to realise the depth of Yasu's feelings for Nana when Mari points out that he has placed Blast ahead of his law apprenticeship commitments. Meanwhile with the members of Blast sent to a wilderness camp by Gaia, Shin takes the opportunity to email Reira, while Yasu admits to Nana that he is in love with her.

42 "NANA, Suddenly Fit" - "NANA, totsuzen no hossa" (ナナ、突然の発作)
After Blast returns from their training camp, the bandmembers move into Gaia's boarding house. Reira replies to Shin's email and she and Mari later find Ren asleep in the bath. Takumi meets Nana's family for the first time. Nana starts hyperventilating after Nobu reveals that he has given up on Hachi.

43 "Blast, Guerrilla Live" - "BURASUTO, GURIRA RAIBU" (ブラスト、ゲリラライブ)
A mysterious actress named Miyu gives Nobu directions on how to help Nana with her panic attack. Takumi notices that Reira has Shin's lighter, although Reira claims she received it from a fan. Blast has an unannounced live in Shinjuku, which Hachiko unknowingly stumbles upon.

44 "Blast VS Trapnest" - "BURASUTO VS TORANESU" (ブラストVSトラネス)
As both bands rehearse for a TV appearance, Yasu confronts Ren about his drug use and treatment of Nana. Ren later proposes to Nana, followed up by a session of rough sex which excites and terrifies Nana at the same time. Reira and Shin manage to sneak out for some alone time, while Nobu is discouraged when he learns that Miyu is seven years older than him.

45 "Blast's First TV Performance" - "BURASUTO TV hatsu shutsuen" (ブラストTV初出演)
Trapnest and Blast make their TV appearances. Hachi admits to Junko that she feels the desire to explain things to Nobu because Shōji never explained his affair with Sachiko to her. The members of Blast play Mah-Jong with their neighbours, Yuri and Miyu. Hachi arranges to meet up with Blast for the fireworks.

46 "Reunion! Hachi and Shōji" - "Saikai! Hachi to Shōji" (再会!ハチと章司)
As Blast's members excitedly prepare for the fireworks festival by cancelling their other appointments and finding disguises, Hachi heads to Jackson's hole where she encounters Shōji for the first time since their breakup. Meanwhile Takumi and Reira discuss Ren's desire to marry Nana.

47 "Fireworks Display, Hachi and NANA" - "Hanabi taikai, Hachi to NANA" (花火大会、ハチとナナ)

Several years in the future, the members of Blast plus Hachi and her daughter Satsuki meet each other again at Room 707 for the fireworks display, but strangely Nana is not present . Back in 2001, Hachi has cold feet about seeing Nobu again so Nana lies and tells her that he won't be present for the fireworks.
Note: This is the last episode of Nana.
